YERME

Young European Researchers in Mathematics Education – YERME
One important aim of ERME is to promote early-career researchers in Mathematical Education. Early-career researchers are organised in a specific ERME community called YERME, which is governed by an elected Committee and has official representatives from the different European countries.
Two young researchers have seats in the ERME board to represent the interests of YERME:

Feel free to send us an email at yerme.mathed@gmail.com if you have questions, comments or suggestions regarding the YERME, YERME day, YESS, or any other YERME activity. Make sure to follow us in social media to stay up to date with everything that’s going on in our community!

YERME activities
There are two main events, each recurring every two years: the YERME day, and the YERME Summer School (YESS). The former is a special two half days meeting attached to the ERME Conferences (CERME) and the latter is a one week Summer School organised in those years when no ERME conference is scheduled.
YERME also organises online events, such as webinars, to encourage and reinforce connections, collaborations and communication amongst each member between the main events. Online events also allow more people to get involved in YERME activities, even if they cannot be present in YESS and/or YERME-day. For more information about each of these events, please see below.

YESS
A YERME summer school (YESS) was first organised in 2002 and has been offered every two years since then. These summer schools entail for example, talks of experienced experts, working groups with young researchers meeting daily for a week, reading each other’s work and providing feedback to one another under the advisement and guidance of a senior member of ERME. Beyond this official program, YESS is a great event for getting to know other young researchers in your area of interest in mathematics education, forming collaborations that could potentially last for years, and getting meaningful, respectful and productive feedback on your work. So far, ERME has organised the following YERME summer schools:

YERME Day

  • YERME days take place prior to CERMEs. A YERME day usually consists of a plenary from a former early-career researcher, who tells about life after the PhD
  • And then it consists of Working Groups and Discussion Groups
  • WGs and DGs at the YERME-DAY concern general topics of interest for young researchers, e.g.:how to choose and frame “good” research questions;
    • how to prepare and analyze experimental activities;
    • how to present the performed study;
    • specific features of quantitative and qualitative studies;
    • specific features of case studies;
    • and so on.

YERME Webinars
YERME Webinars are interactive lectures or workshops held in an online format. They are intended to let early-career researchers in Mathematics Education from all over Europe (and the rest of the world) connect with experts in the field to discuss the general topic of interests as those that are addressed in YERME days.

YERME on social media: Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
YERME is present on three social media:

There is a group of people keeping constant activity on social networks. They are Luca Lamanna (Italy), Dorota Lembrér (Sweden), Dilan Şahin-Gür (Germany), and Andrea Maffia (Italy). We share news about (Y)ERME activities and conferences, summer schools, open job positions, and so on.
